A spectrophotometric analysis of volumetric dye penetration observed with different root canal obturation techniques compared to inject refill thermoplasticized injection technique

Inject-R-Fill is the new thermoplasticized gutta percha obturation technique in which the carrier is removed and only the gutta-percha is allowed to remain within the canal, at the end of the obturation procedure. This new technique was compared with the otherthermoplastic method -the Thermafil and theconventional lateral condensation technique, to evaluate its sealing ability. Sectrophotometric analysis to quantitate the apical dye leakage in the three experimental groups was compared using positive and negative control groups. It was found thatthere was no significant difference between thethree experimental groups. However, Inject-R-Fill was found to be better than Thermafil technique, though lateral condensation was found to be superior to both these thermo- compaction techniques.

Guided bone regeneration in large periapical defects-A case report

Guided bone regeneration has helped to modify the post-operative healing response of the tissues. A barrier membrane, when placed over a surgical site, allows selective proliferation of osteoprogenitor cells and thus, good healing with bone formation, instead of fibrous tissues is obtained. A case of large peri- apical lesion, in which guided bone regeneration technique was used, is presehted.

An ln-vitro Study of the Sealing Ability of Light Vs Chemically Cured Materials in Furcation Perforations

Two light-cured materials, FUJI II LC and Calcimol LC, were compared with two chemically cured materials, GC FUJI Hand Dycal, for their ability to seal furcation perforations. Access openings and furcation perforations were prepared in 40 teeth and randomly divided into four equal groups. Furcation perforations were repaired with each of the tested materials, and the access openings were filled with composite resin. The teeth were then immersed in 2% Methylene blue dye for 10 days. They were then sectioned longitudinally and dye penetration was measured with stereo microscope. The light cured materials allowed statistically significant less dye leakage than did the chemically cured materials.

Comparison of marginal adaptation of three retrograde filling materials-ascanning electron microscope study

Sixty anterior teeth with single root and root canal were selected for this study. Regtrograde sealing ability of three materials-silver amalgam, glass-ionomer and cermet cement was evaluated and compared in-vitro under scanning electron microscope. The materials were (I) silver amalgam (Solila nova), (ii) glass ionomer cement (Fuji ii) and (iii) cermet ionomer cement (Ketac silver). All the materials were used according to the manufacturers' direction. The photomicrographs of scanning electron microscope (500 magnification) of silver amalgam showed more gap than glass ionomer and cermet ionomer cements. In this study, cermet glass ionomer showed the least microleakage and the best sealing ability.
