Cracked tooth, though an infrequent clinical entity, can present a perplexing diagnostic and management problem. The diagnostic criteria, causative factors and their prevention is discussed. Three cases of cracked posterior teeth is illustrated to highlight the varied clinical presentation of the problem.

Apical extrusion of obturating material was compared in patent apical foramina and a presence of a dentin plug by using three different obturation techniques- lateral condensation, thermafil and successfil. It was found that apical extrusion group with a dentin plug was significantly less compared to the group with patent foramina. Of the three techniques, lateral condensation technique produced the least amount of extrusion.

Root resorption is of main concern to the endodontists. Early diagnosis, removal of the cause if feasible, proper treatment and reinforcement of the resorbed root is mandatory for achieving success. Sealing ability of four different root canal sealers were tested in vitro, under scanning electron microscope. In all the group, obturation was done by lateral condensation method, taking gutta percha as the core material with different sealer. It was found that zinc oxide-eugenol showed good adaptation to the canal wall compared to the other materials. Endomethasone showed moderate sealing ability. Between the two calcium hydroxide cements, Apexit showed better result than Sealapex.
